I felt soiled, just looking at him.
It was beyond grisly to behold, that jowly jaw line hampered by clinging folds of face-fat, freely jiggling with every slight movement. Those small, pig-swill eyes cantering back and forth beneath heavy, sagging eyelids was enough to put any right-thinking individual off balance, but the piece de resistance could only be the eyebrows. Thick, busy in careless disarray, and mouse-brown to boot, those brows epitomised and completed the look of a brash, overweight scoundrel who couldn’t be trusted further than you could throw him.
Considering his abysmal obesity, the toss would be guaranteed in its shortcomings.
Yes, this was a man who knew no boundaries, his gluttonies obvious in the ripe paunch overhanging the unseemly waistline, barren and devoid of shape. The way he worried fretfully at his third or fourth chin with a stubby forefinger only confirmed his lack of personal control. His lip curled upward as he scratched away at whatever annoyance beset the vast space beneath his mouth, and finally, doglike his tongue lolled out the side of the facial split some might have called his mouth.
I peered closer, knowing the danger, aware of my roiling innards as my proximity closed.
His eyes caught me again, and I was held. Vainly I sought to pull away, but this obscene monstrosity of a man knew how to hold your gaze. There was something in those beady orbs that pulled you in, even as your skin crawled and your mind screamed at you to turn and run as far away as the opposite direction would allow. The beast grinned, his greening, garish teeth bristling through his lips. It occurred to me he’d sized me up already, searching me as I was searching him; little pig-eyes had categorised me like so many oversized burgers on a plastic fast-food eating tray. Chills crept up my spine as I considered the multitude of alarming possible conclusions he’d drawn about my person or character to bring about this oozing, self-satisfied smirk. Around his mouth, some ugly and festering growth bespoke his unspeakable tastes. I was more than certain now his proclivities extended into realms considered nightmarish by most, but a source of infinite pleasure for his perverse personality.
His grin widened.
Momentarily taken off guard, I stooped forward, his leer bordering on hypnotic. Regardless of the drool slowly but inevitably succumbing to gravity despite its vain attempt to cling to his putrid upper lip, I couldn’t bring myself to look away. Gravity won the battle, and spittle ran its languid course downward, coming to rest in that landscape of jiggling chins. Pooling in a pocket of excess skin, his mucous found a new home beneath his gargantuan face.
For some bizarre reason, the queasy sensation in my stomach began to recede.
Just as I began to wonder if my personal fortitude had undergone a miraculous transformation, he licked his lips. I hadn’t noticed until that moment the horrendous and utterly disgusting size of his tongue, but now, face to face and far too close, I was stuck staring. Its full length bordered on impossible, its form resembling some wet, pink creature from the murky depths of a swamp than a human tongue. It rolled slowly up, down, and around – probing sickly at putrescent sores around the mouth. It was a repulsive vision, and any good-natured personality might have been held blameless for retching on the spot.
Yet I wasn’t revolted. I was excited.
Somehow the creature had taken a hold of me completely and utterly. In a few short moments, his derisive, searching, heady stare had taken my control and shaken it out in the breeze. Tingles and shivers travelled up my arms as I stared deliberately at the human obscenity. I wanted, no, I needed to look at that face, every day of my life from now until the day I died.
I smiled companionably, even stupidly as his musty, cloying breath fogged up into my face. I knew what I wanted. I stood back, straightened and turned away from that perverse vision I suddenly desired so badly.
Nearby, a store clerk regarded my predicament with curiosity.
Signalling the clerk to approach, I pointed to the space occupied by my vicarious new obsession.
“This is a fine mirror,” I practically slobbered the words, licking my lips to remove the drool from my offensively oversized face.
The clerk smiled, his eyes politely avoiding my small, hypnotic, pig-like eyes.
"I'll take it."
